Moscow and Riyadh discuss bilateral relations and coordinate positions on regional issues


Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.


A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry following the meeting said that the two ministers "discussed priorities for the continuous strengthening of Russian-Saudi relations of mutual benefit, and affirmed Moscow and Riyadh's endeavor to continue joint work that is intended to give the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries the character of a strategic partnership."


The two ministers stressed "the importance of implementing agreements on developing bilateral cooperation in various fields, which were reached at the summit level earlier."


The statement indicated that the two sides "paid great attention to strengthening coordination between Russia and Saudi Arabia towards a wide range of issues on the international and regional agenda, including the situation in Yemen, Syria and the Gulf region."
