15 soldiers killed in two attacks in separatist region of Cameroon

The Cameroonian Ministry of Defense announced today that 15 soldiers were killed in two attacks that took place last week in one of the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon, where armed groups are waging a separatist rebellion.

The ministry said in a statement that a military battalion was ambushed by heavily armed terrorists in Bamesingh in the northwestern region, noting that "the rebels immobilized the vehicles using an explosive device and an anti-tank missile launcher before they opened heavy fire on the convoy."

The statement added that the gunmen, in a second attack, targeted a military convoy with an improvised explosive device in the town of Kombo in the same area, noting that the two attacks resulted in a total outcome of about 15 soldiers and a number of civilians.
