5 people were killed and 20 others injured in an explosion in southern Afghanistan

Five civilians were killed and 20 others, including women and children, were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar late last night.

The provincial police, as reported by the Afghan Pajfak News Agency today, Wednesday, that the accident occurred after a passenger car hit a mine on the side of the road.

Health officials confirmed casualties in the blast and said that "the wounded include women and children."

No one, including the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the blast so far. This comes as Maiwand district fell to the Taliban after clashes broke out yesterday.
