13.3% decrease in Egypt's imports from international gatherings in 2020


Today, Tuesday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued the annual bulletin of intra-trade with international groupings in 2020, and its most important indicators are intra-trade with international groupings that include Egypt, which is ESCWA, Sahel and Sahara, COMESA, the Group of Fifteen, and the Arab Free Trade Area. It is clear that the total value of Egypt's exports to these groups amounted to 28 billion dollars in 2020, compared to 30 billion dollars in 2019, a decrease of 6.4%.


Egypt's exports to the Arab Free Trade Zone came in the first place, with a value of $9.8 billion in 2020 compared to $10.1 billion in 2019, a decrease of 3.5%, followed by ESCWA, where the total value of exports reached $8 billion in 2020 compared to $8.4 billion in 2019. a decrease of 4.1%.


The COMESA group ranked last, with the total value of exports reaching $2 billion in 2020 compared to $2.2 billion in 2019, a decrease of 8.2%, and the total value of Egypt's imports from those gatherings amounting to $29.6 billion in 2020 compared to $34.2 billion in 2019, with a decrease of 13.3%, and came in first place Egypt's imports from the Arab Free Trade Area, reaching a value of 9.3 billion dollars in 2020 compared to 11.2 billion dollars in 2019, a decrease of 17.4%, followed by the group of fifteen, where the total value of imports reached 8.3 billion dollars in 2020. Compared to $9.3 billion in 2019, a decrease of 10.7%.


And the Sahel and Sahara grouping came last, with the total value of imports reaching $0.8 billion in 2020 compared to $0.9 billion in 2019, a decrease of 15.3%.


As for intra-regional trade with international groupings that do not include Egypt, namely the European Union, EFTA, NAFTA, ASEAN, MERCOSUR, and from it it is clear that the total value of Egypt's exports to these groupings amounted to 10.5 billion dollars in 2020 compared to 13.3 billion dollars in 2019. With a decrease of 20.7%, Egypt’s exports to the European Union came in the first place, reaching $7.2 billion in 2020 compared to $9.5 billion in 2019, with a decrease of 23.9%, followed by the NAFTA pool, where the total value of exports amounted to $2.3 billion in 2020 compared to 3.0 billion dollars. billion dollars in 2019, a decrease of 21.6%, and the Al-Afta group came in last rank, as the total value of exports amounted to 150.2 million dollars in 2020 compared to 37.6 million dollars in 2019, an increase of 299.5%.


The total value of Egypt’s imports from these gatherings amounted to $33.1 billion in 2020, compared to $35.4 billion in 2019, a decrease of 6.7%, and Egypt’s imports from the European Union ranked first, reaching 19.2 billion pounds in 2020 compared to $20.9 billion in 2019, with a decrease An amount of 8.0%, followed by NAFTA, where the total value of imports amounted to 5.4 billion dollars in 2020 compared to 5.5 billion dollars in 2019, a decrease of 2.2%. The EFTA group came in the last place, where the total value of imports amounted to 1.3 billion dollars in 2020 compared to 1.2 billion dollars in 2019. With an increase of 13.8%.
