"Apricot" .. Do its seeds poison you or protect you from cancer?

Apricots are one of the most prominent summer fruits that are accepted by many, especially children, and despite the many benefits of apricots, they are an important source for resisting skin aging and protecting against ultraviolet rays, in addition to moisturizing the skin in a natural way, but some research has indicated the inherent danger in apricot seeds.

The report pointed out that the apricot kernel contains an acid called "hydrocyanic", which is a colorless, but highly toxic, liquid inorganic acid that leads to disturbances in the digestive system and exposure to poisoning.

The presence of acid in apricot seeds is considered dangerous to health due to the link between the cyanide in the seeds and poisoning, which explains why some people experience vomiting, sweating, fainting and dizziness, after eating apricots, according to a report issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

And the British Food Standards Agency previously warned that eating 100 grains of apricots threatens the lives of people, while eating 40 grams of these seeds is considered a toxic dose, especially if those seeds are exposed to moisture, and it causes several chemical reactions that lead to the release of hydrocyanic acid to cause Intoxication.

Despite this, some research has indicated the role of apricot seeds in protecting against cancer, as apricot kernels also contain the chemical compound amygdalin, which works to destroy cancer cells inside the body and prevents the growth of tumors, but the US Food and Drug Administration did not approve the use of Amygdalin for cancer patients.

The US Food Administration based on some reports dating back to 2015, which mentioned the possibility of poisoning when eating large amounts of apricots as a result of cyanide, and research recommended that the maximum intake of apricots, which are three small grains, should not be exceeded. Eating it exposes you to poisoning.
