Aboul Gheit receives the head of the Yemeni Shura Council, and affirms the university's support for the unity of Yemen

Today, Tuesday, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received the head of the Yemeni Shura Council, Ahmed Obaid bin Dagher, and his accompanying delegation, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat.

An official source at the League’s General Secretariat stated that Aboul Gheit expressed during the meeting that he was convinced that the majority of Yemenis want to live in a unified and stable Yemen, away from conflicts and wars, and that the university supports Yemen’s unity, independence and sovereignty away from foreign interference.

The source added that Aboul Gheit heard during the meeting a detailed presentation from "Bin Dagher" about the latest developments in the field and political situation in the Yemeni arena, and that he made clear for his part that the Houthis are still rejecting any initiatives proposed for a political solution, bearing in mind that these initiatives do not exclude them from the future of Yemen. And noting that regional influences on the Houthis seem to dominate their political decision.

The source quoted Aboul Gheit as confirming that the attacks launched by the Houthis on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as on civilians in Marib and elsewhere, will only prolong the suffering of Yemenis throughout the country, calling on the Houthi group to pay attention to the interests of Yemen and the suffering of its people, which have been exhausted by the years of conflict. Instead of being drawn behind the agendas of regional parties seeking to achieve their own interests.
