World Health announces the arrival of Corona vaccines in Afghanistan as part of the Kovacs initiative



Afghanistan today received doses of the Coronavirus vaccine, shipped through the COVAX Initiative, a partnership between the Alliance for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, CEPI, the Gavi Foundation, UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

The organization added: Afghanistan is the first country in Central Asia to receive the vaccine through the COVAX initiative, which is scheduled to provide at least two billion doses of Corona vaccines by the end of 2021.


She emphasized that the arrival of the first COVAX doses is a major milestone, and the Gavi Foundation looks forward to continuing our cooperation with the people of Afghanistan, and partners to ensure the smooth and equitable distribution of vaccines to those who need it most.


"This is a great day for the people of Afghanistan," said Shima Sen Gupta, Acting UNICEF Representative in Afghanistan, "The imminent deployment of the COVAX vaccine means that about 234,000 people, including teachers, will be better protected from the ravages of the Coronavirus."
